Seriously, you coulnd't find a better spot to park?

So... not only do these geniuses decide they need to sit on the courtesy dock and hang their feet in the water, they park not one but TWO vehicles directly on the ramp. I didn't stay around long enough to see the end result, the guy with the boat waiting to unload hadn't done his prep yet. If I had any faith in humanity I'd say they would have seen the error in their ways, apologized for taking up the ramp, and left... For some reason I doubt that.

Take your pick:
  1. Ignorance is bliss
  2. I know, I just don't care
  3. "I have as much right to park there as you do"
  4. "It's a what? a boat ramp?, really?, oh I thought it was a fishing jetty"
  5. "Don't be a cry-baby, there plenty of room, use other side"
  6. "I won't be long, we are just about through talking"
  7. "Listen Sonny, I was sitting here back when you were just a twinkle in your Daddy's eye, run along now and let me be"

Well to each his own? I would have launched and parked directly in behind them and then sat in the water with my line out kicked back about 20' off shore and waited for thier reaction when they were ready to leave. Like I said to each his own

The other side is also really tough to load/unload at, especially with a bunk trailer. The river is extremely high right now, and lots of sand/silt has washed in. I unloaded on the near side a couple days ago, and my FRONT tires were about 6 feet from the shoreline. Yes, front tires, I was that far back. (essentially you don't even get to the normal slope of the ramp, this is still part of the parking lot)

That ramp sure doesn't give much room to get turned around unless i just can't see all of it, it's like where's the entrance, that boat and trailer isn't in position to back up yet.

Something doesn't look right, maybe flood condition and entrance road seen in lower left is underwater? Temporary dock put in.

Looks like the dock would be pretty useless under normal conditions. With the front tires of your tow vehicle 6 feet into the water, looks like the boat would be well past the end of the dock when it comes off the trailer.

The turnaround is just large enough for most vehicles to make the turn without backing up. The road going past is actually about 15 feet above the parking lot/ramp area, the entrance to the ramp is actually far to the right, off the pic.

(thats an old sat pic, the parking lot on the non-water side has been extended about another 100 feet towards the water. The parking in the pic is all part of the new section.)

The dock gets moved as needed. NORMALLY the missouri river here is fairly consistent in elevation, the corp has been dropping the major reservoirs in prep for winter snowfall and spring flooding. Garrison dam is usually under 20,000 cubic feet per second. August average was 16000, and right now it is 40,000 CFS.

but yeah, as it stands now, even my little jetboat is pretty much past the dock by the time I get it off the trailer.

geez.... We see this all the time around here.... If I'm in need of using the launch, I just walk up and state in a matter of fact fashion.." Gonna have to move for a bit, we're about to load, and your in the way"

I just leave it at that.... walk back to the preping area and start to move into position to back in.... what they do from there is their choice.:p

We launch almost exclusively at state parks...so a quick call to the ranger station and its handled rather quickly.

Of course, thats only if asking them politely to move doesn't work.

Yep, that's what I do with ramp tourists.

Ignorance is bliss to some folk. Polite request to move both themselves and the vehicles would be where I started.

From looking at the picture I think I could get my rig in there no problem.. I ran into a similar problem with the county sheriff blocking the ramp during a rain storm.. Needless to say the ramp was busy that afternoon and he wasn't moving. I think he was there trying prevent chaos.. Squeezed my stuff right by him. No one else would even try..

Re: Seriously, you coulnd't find a better spot to park?

What I seem to run into is people parking there cars in the truck/trailer parking, I've come to accept it but what drives me nuts is when people park there cars in a truck/trailer spot when theres another car parked by themselves somewhere else in the lot. Why is it so hard to double park and save a spot for what its intended? Inconsiderate people will drive me to my grave
