Hello, Im new here. I have 2 old outboard motors my Grandfather left me. Im having trouble finding much info on them. One is a Sears. Serial# 58342 3312 Model# 571 58342 and the other is a Evinrude Serial# B11858 Model# 3038. My purpose is to find out what exactly they are, and to sell them to someone so they dont just deteriorate much more in my backyard. If I could get an AS IS value that would be great. Thanks.

Greetings and welcome to iBoats.

You really don't need to do too much leg-work in order to sell them. They will probably go as 'parts motors' to someone who restores old outboards, because they look like they are missing cowling, etc.

If you can get $100 each that might be good.

Welcome aboard.

I moved your thread to see if we might get some better answers. I don't know anything about the Sears motor. The Evinrude is a 1961 lightwin 3HP.

Yeah, the value is gonna' be low. Maybe nuthin' at all, just get 'em out of your way.

Very little value on those, especially the sears motor, junk value only. I woukd not pay anything for them so go with best offer.

The Sears is a 1963 West Bend 7.5 HP. The Evinrude was previously identified. A simple google search of the model numbers would have provided that info.

As a collector of outboards, neither would be of interest to me. Mainly because the Sears is not collectible, and the 'Rude is missing parts.

Sell the pair on Marketplace for 10 bucks and maybe someone will buy them. That's about the scrap metal price. Or, spray paint them pretty and hang them on your garage wall as a remembrance of your Granddad.

^^^ Jim makes a good point, that I kinda' rolled over. Sentimental value is it's thing: I have two of my great grandpa's old outboards. One is an Evinrude like yours, just older. Mine are both in working order, but essentially valueless - except that they were grandpas. I remember being all over the lake with him as a kid with these old putters.

If ya' don't wanna' make 'em run, and don't really wanna' sell 'em: make them look pretty and do a little industrial decoration with them.

Thankyou for the kind reply, Im a super amateur when it comes to old boat motors. I did do a "simple" google search and visual search on the motors long before I came to experts for advice. The serial numbers got confusing. I got many different replies. Some say worth something, some say not worth anything. I guess it depends on the buyer, right? Currently I put them up for sale as parts/or restoration For $100 obo for the pair. Do you think that is fair?

Absolutely.

Good starting point, if nothing else. You can always go down to "free to a good home" easily enough. ;)
