So I cannot search this because the "330" does not register on the search. I am looking at a vintage (beater) Searay Weekender 30, direct drive, and it has engines that say "330" and "Mercruiser" on the valve covers. All I could guess is that the 330 represents horsepower...Are these 454s?

As always, thanks in advance for the help...

okay- semi related question. to re-power with small blocks, will the bell housings "bolt on"? i imagine i would have to change engine mounts, but the bell housing would be the deal breaker

Why would you change them out? What is the back story?

one of them has water in the oil, and the current owner "bought it that way" and has no idea the history. both of them have rusted items such as starters and other accessories. the one without water in the oil will not start, and has compression numbers written on the top that are in the 130s. so I am not sure i would change them out, or even that i am going to buy this beater. i am just wondering what my options are before i decide. I was thinking of restoring the boat (hull is in excellent shape), and throw in a couple fuel injected 350s instead of the carbed 454s. i figure if i have to replace most everything anyway, i would look at all options.

the flywheel covers are different for big block vs small block, not to mention the gear ratio in the transmissions are different too

your best bet would be a complete repower, full bobtail engine/trans packages

unless you want to spend more in the long run on this beater than you would a newer running boat, walk away
