Howdy, TA.

What have you done to isolate the problem? Random replacement of parts is an easy way to waste money, but it does little in the way of troubleshooting.

Do you have a manual?

Have you verified that all cylinders are making power?

Have you pumped your primer bulb when trying to engage the gears?

Have you verified the "link 'n' synch" of throttle to carbs and ignition timing?

Let us know. :)

When you rebuilt the carbs did you soak them good or just spray some cleaner and istall new kits? The high speed jets can really get gummed up and need a good cleaning by cooking or soaking in acid.

Re: same question " let me rephrase it"

Was the compression the same on all the cylinders , or at least within ten pounds of each other (the highest reading and the lowest reading) ?

I had the same problem and my o/b mercury had a broke ring and a couple of stuck rings. not good :(

I ended up replacing two pistons and all new rings. now she runs like a charm :D

Tight Lines and Solid Hooksets :D

Soaked them in gas? Wasnt gas what caused the carbs to get gummed up in the first place? Hummm.........

YES, soak them in a cleaner. Engine Tuner works great.

ok i soaked them in gas ause we sunk the boat and i wanted to be sure that they were water free. the compression is 115+ on 3 cylinders and 116 on the fourth. if i had to replace rings how much am is it gonna cost me.

ummm you removed the carbs and 'soaked them in gas to make sure they are water free' ? did you pull them apart (every screw)blow them out and reassemble.? Is it idling to slow? Commpession is good, forget about rings. Check the accelerator pump (has it got one?)isnt set wrong and giving a big squirt of fuel stalling the motor (Remove the flame arrestor and look down the carb)

Re: same question " let me rephrase it"

There is no accelerator pump here.Just jets that need to be free of build up. My suggestion is to take the carbs off, buy some rebuild kits and take them to a reputable mechanic for a good rebuild. He will have a good cleaner or acid to soak them in to remove any deposits. Just a small restriction will not let the fuel flow to develop the RPMs needed to push the boat.
