Do I want to run five color lead core off the planer? Using planer boards are new to me, What should I run behind them and how do you get the bait down to the fish? I have 2 downriggers that we run out each back corner (how far back to run bait?) and 1 dipsy on each side. (if any of you are dipsy pros, please let me know so I can pick your brains) We want to add the planer boards to cover more water when on the open water. We will be heading up to Frankfort Michigan for salmon.

For great Michigan information, I recomend www.michigan-sportsman.com
Hit the cold water fishing reports and you will find tons of good stuff. If you join (no charge) you can ask, and you will get tons of guidance. Well worth the time spent. The salmon will be good on all of your methods as the summer closes. Have fun up there it's a stunning place to fish and play.

The question is not whether you can run 5 colors, because you can,the real question is how deep the fish are.5 colors take you 25 to 30 feet down, which will not help you any if the salmon are 100 feet down.I use leadcore in 6,8 and 10 color lengths off the planer boards(otter boats) but mostly for steelhead, Coho and of course browns.
Oh, by the way,if you want big kings you should come to Lake Ontario.Right now we are pulling plenty of 30+ pound fish out of the water and last week there was a 42.88 pound king.
As for dipsy divers,I run them often, with 20 or 30 pound test 7 stranded wire line on a special wire line rod with a twilly tip. There is a lot to learn and mistakes are usually in the 50 dollar range,so it is not a cheap sport.
