i have an older cal 24, and the rudder-tiller connection is very loose. when i hold the rudder still underwater and have someone push and pull the tiller, i cant even feel it. I have tried to look at the connection under the cockpit as well as in the water and i am stumped. is there something that i am overlooking?

Re: rudder-tiller connection

Almost all tillers are fixed at the top of the rudder shaft (Stock).

Look for a single bolt head in the centre of the shaft or under the tiller handle, some have a cover that screws off exposing the bolt.

Most shafts have the tip machined to a square section also.

Hope this helps.

Re: rudder-tiller connection

That's right...the rudder stock or post is part of the rudder itself. I have seen a few that the rudder post became loose inside the rudder blade itself. If you can turn the rudder post without moving the blade, then its time to look at a new rudder assembly. Hopefully its just a loose connection between teh tiller and post.
