I have a 1996 75 Force that has this rubber tube coming off the front of the engine just above the lower unit (about 2 inches up). Its about 8 inches long and its tied off to my shifting rod with a wire tie. It has a plastic plug stuck in the end of it so nothing can get into the tube. What the heck is this thing????????? It looks like a factory job....? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks all....

Not that familiar with Force, but it sounds like a speedometer feed line.

It is a speedometer pick-up it. You will see a small hole in the front face of the lower unit. factory put this in to get away from using the pitot tube for the speedo. problem is that they had a tendency to get clogged and it isn't economical to repair the blockage.
