Finaly got her running and on first trip out she started to knock after a 2 1/2hr. run. Then she stopped solid. My fault because I was running her hard 5500 to 6000+ at times. Nothing I haven't done in the past. Was a long way from home, Got her Home and tore down My power head to find the rod bearing spent on #1 connecting rod. Now she's an 1986 MERCURY 90HP, rings, rod bearings and crank bearings were replaced in 1997, CAN I GET BY WITH DOING THIS AGAIN??? OR SHOULD I REPLACE THE PISTONS??? pistons look real good, rings aren't froze up but want to replace them, I have all tools required to do job ring spreeder and ring compresser, but should I replace pistons that are good??? or can I save a few hundred by just replacing rings and bearings???
