I've done long trips on the Ohio, Cumberland, and Monongahela rivers in my 1984 21' Sea Ray cuddy. It takes some planning, but I enjoy them.

I have been on the St. John's River in almost all the places described in the link (except for the non navigable parts) by boat.

All I can say is "Do it, if you can. You won't be disappointed!"
