I was reading the repair forum in one of my 'Boating' magazines and one of the advisors made a comment that exhaust risers are only good for about 5 years?? Is that right? He didnt specify if the recommendation was for fresh or salt water but either way I just cant fathom that. Mine are faaaaaaaaar older than that and seem fine.. Any insight?

Re: Risers Question

I would guess that referenced salt water use. However, I only run my risers ("elbows") for 3 years on my Alpha, as I use them in salt water and don't flush-out my engine.
And I've been only going 5 or 6 years on my manifolds.
I'm always surprised at how many people push parts to the limit, and take short-cuts, when you can get stuck needing a tow.......or, trash your engine....

Re: Risers Question

Risers can and do last to 15 years. Some even longer. The manifolds a bit longer. When the risers go bad it's time to replace the manifolds.
It really depends on where U boat.I'm in the Atlantic in Fl.VERY salty.
Used to boat on the Chesapeake.Lots of brakish water.Stuff lasts longer.J
