Re: rinker 192 owners

We got our '05 192 last summer that had one previous owner. We have small kids so it's a trailered boat that is used on weekends/vacation for tubing, skiing, etc. So far it's been a very good ride. Very good quality, fit and finish. The previous owners really didn't take great care in the housekeeping department so I've had to replace (with the help of Rinker customer service) the wood grain dash panel (small crack), reskin the rear cushion (separated seam) and replace the snap-in carpets (from Custom Marine Carpets). It was a great deal and it's now in immaculate shape. Right now I'm in the process of tuning the Smart Tabs I installed and am going to try out a new SS prop. It's powered by a Volvo 4.3L TKS carb that runs great.

Enjoy! You won't be disappointed!

Re: rinker 192 owners

Well, before the boat went to sleep last fall, I was able to get 45 mph out of her but the engine was over revving (5,000 rpm). I had installed a set of Smart Tabs to eliminate the porpoising and low speed planing issues I had but the actuators were too aggressive (way too much stern lift) and had blow-out issues. I've since replaced the 60 lb. tab actuators with lower pressure units (40 lb.). It looks like the Rinker hulls are almost perfect.....they just need a bit of help to improve the low speed performance (I can plane at 16-17 mph instead of 23-24 mph).

I've also just received a 14.25 x 18" Turbo 2+2 TH 4-blade stainless prop (stock is a 14.25 x 19" 4 blade Volvo aluminum).
Isn't tuning fun??!?

The speedo is very accurate as it agrees with the GPS.

Re: rinker 192 owners

Not a problem. I'm not really looking for top end my case......mostly low/mid range performance. Hopefully the 18" will get me in the right rpm range (with the less aggressive tab setting) with a good hole shot and cornering capabilities.

Have fun!

Re: rinker 192 owners

I just bought mine and love it so far. Only thing is, the dash boards are coming unglued and the gauges will not stay in due to the backing breaking up. Other than that it handles great and plains out very fast.

Re: rinker 192 owners

Well, my tuning experiment is not working out so well. Putting 40 lb. actuators on the Smart Tabs has yielded porpoising once again. And the 18" 4-blade stainless prop is now giving me 5200 rpm.

The next step is to go back to 60 lb. actuators and try a 22'' 4-blade stainless. With the data points I now have, a 22" should get me to 4,500 rpm which is right on for the 4200 to 4600 rpm max wot spec. And I should see a solid 45 mph with good hole shot, good cornering and reduced ventilation. I should have everything ready to go for another sea trial soon.

Re: rinker 192 owners

Update......

Put 60 lb Smart Tab actuators back on.

Tried 14.25x22" 4-blade stainless. Max rpm dropped to 4400 rpm. Planing time was OK but not great when fully loaded. Max speed was a hair over 45 mph with full fuel load and 2 adults.

Tried 14.25x20" 4-blade stainless. Max rpm now up to 4800 rpm (200 over recommended). Planing time improved. Max speed just over 44 mph (all speeds according to GPS).

Next I increased tab pressure (hole #4....4th from transom) and speed increased to 45.5 mph with same loading.

Porpoising gone, ventilation in tight corners gone, lateral stability excellent, minimum planing speed is 16 mph and time to plane is 3 to 4 seconds.

I'll try hole #5 (more tab pressure) and see what that does to the top end.

So far, so good!

I have a 2005 192 rinker w a 190 hp mercruiser. My dealer told me I could not fit trim tabs on this hull design. How did you do it?Any pics would be great. Also I found the porposing was bad. I put on a hydofoil and it almost stopped it.I am running a 21" 3 blade

Your dealer doesn't know what he's talking about. The SmartTabs went on great. Any tabs will work for that matter. There is plenty of room. Here are the photos to prove it!

BTW, foils in my opinion are junk. The boat is way too tippy and unpredictable when doing tight turns. Tabs offer much better lateral stability and are predictable. I tried a 192 with a foil and hated it.

Re: rinker 192 owners

End result was 60 lb. actuators. I tried 40's and they were too light.

4th hole from the transom seems to be the sweet spot.

Re: rinker 192 owners

I installed the sx smart tabs on my 07 192 yesterday at the cottage. I have had them for a while just sitting in the shed never had time to install them .
Took some pics after I was done . Looks like I screwed up & have the port side upper bracket lower than the starboard side ( should help with the LIST)
Measure twice ,drill once . I think the fact that I was Sober was the contributing factor of my incompitance on the install . WTF?
Wont have a chance to Roadtest the tabs for a few weeks.

I noticed while crawling around the stern that the drive is offset to starboard?
does anyone else see the same on their 192 .
Mine is a 2007 w/190hp merc. Alpha 1 drive.
The engine looks to be offset as well , but to port , when looking at it from the ft ?
Is this to counteract torque?
Or is my boat just "Special "

Here is a pic of my blundered install.

Offset? What was your reference point when measuring? I haven't noticed anything unususal.

Re: rinker 192 owners

I had tried to get a center line reference point to measure from
I ended up using the brass drain hole as it seemed to be more or less center of the transome . Looking up from there the drive definatly looks to be slightly offset to starboard. I lost the pics of the engine compartment .
Maybe its just that #1 cylinder is on the left bank? So it looks to be closer?
I dont know ? Boat drove great before , I am sure it will be even better with tabs .The only times it would list left is when everyone was sitting on that side & only my fat *** to ballance the starboard side , no big deal I could steer to compinsate . But My kids & their friends are teens & some of them are monsters .
