Is there anything after market that I can buy to retro my 5.7 s with closed cooling so that future "consumables" to replace or inspect would only be risers/elbows? The exhaust manifolds would pass antifreeze as well as engine block and heat exchangers. The only retro-fit I have been able to find so far would pass raw sea water through manifolds AND risers/elbows. Block and heat exchangers would only contain antifreeze coolant. Perhaps there is a reason why manifolds MUST have sea water passed through them as well. Perhaps too hot???????

I have owned 4 MC I/Os cooled with raw sea water and religiously flushed with fresh water after trips in salt water. Risers/elbows are the first to clog or restrict water flow. They are easy to inspect by "touch." If one side is hotter than the other, it usually means a passage is clogged or beginning to clog and you should remove and INSPECT and clear passages, if you can. They can be a pain in the butt to clean or unclog. I have never replaced an exhaust manifold due to leakage. I suspect risers fail as they are more exposed to hot gases and sea water.

Nonetheless, I am looking for a closed cooling system, where in the future, I would only have to inspect and replace risers/elbows. Any suggestions???

There are several closed cooling systems out their that can be installed and work very well. The issue is they need to be installed within the first 50 hours. If your willing to pull, clean and rebuild your engine then install a closed cooling system and have no more issue
