I've found a small area of transom rot in my '63 Starcraft Jupiter which I'm restoring. Examining it from the inside behind the double sliding doors it is located near the boat center down by where the deck meets the transom. I believe it's about four inches in diameter (at least the part above the deck - no idea what's below that).
Would that be something I can fix with a "Git Rot" kit or should I find a boat pro here in the Raleigh area to do it?
The rest of the boat is in great shape. I'm 2nd owner - 30 yrs of Fsn Yet with it - and don't mind spending the money to have it done right. But if i can do it with a drill and basic woodworking skills without haing to cut out the flooring back there i'll give it a shot.

Re: Restoring a '63 Starcraft Jupiter

i dont know how bad yours is...i was in a similar situation (71 jupiter) and decided to just replace the transom altogether. i already had the deck/foam/stringers out so it wasn't too bad....if you get all the bolts out, and the screws that hold the splashwell into the transom you should be able to get it out without much of a problem, just a little patience. I was able to get mine out in two clean pieces which i used to make a template to fabricate a new one. took me two days between removing and fabricating a new one...
