Restoring 1969 AristoCraft, deck question

Just bought this boat to restore. It's not in too bad a shape. The deck at the bow has cracks in a non-skid gel coat or possibly paint. Some of it is separating from the substrate & flaking off, not a thin coating at all, maybe the thickness of poster board. Wondering how to fix! I had another old boat that had similar cracks in a painted surface but wasn't loose at all...we used Marine Tex. I got rid of it before I ended up finished tho, so don't know how it turned out. Appreciate suggestions please! Thanks...Lee

Hi, Welcome to iboats. Can you post some pics of this? What you are describing doesn't sound factory - sounds like someone has repainted this. Post some pics (best bet to post pics is to open a photobucket account, upload images, click on the text box to the right of IMG on the image you want to post, then paste it into your iboats post).

I'll post pics when I pick it up, after 8/20. It does look like pain but when it breaks off, it's actually the bare fiberglass build under it, no gel or anything. I'm told it's from the cold...freezing temps. I'm originally from Florida so no experience in cold weather damage! LOL
