Does anyone have experience with a remanufactured engine in the SW Ontario region? I've looked into Aero-Hill, Marine Manifold, Crosstown Engines, Factory Engine Exchange and Rapido in Florida but the prices vary by up to $1200. How can I be certain they're rebuilding a marine engine and not just repainting an engine out of a Chevy Astro van? I need a non-balance shaft 4.3 litre V6 long block

I don't have any experience with them myself but I have heard good things about Active Engines in Mississauga.

I'd go with Crosstown in Scarborough. I know the guys and they rebuild the engines using marine parts. They know the difference between automotive, marine and racing. They've been racing cars for years and know how to build a solid motor. An engine block out of a Chevy Astro van is the same as a marine engine block. The differences lie in the camshaft, crankshaft, bearings, frost plugs (marine are brass), etc... Basically, the internals are much different on a marine engine.
