i recently purchased a 1989 25' walk round hydrasports which is currently powered by 2-200 hp suzukis. the motors required work and i did not do a sea trial. the hull is rated for up to 2-225hps. my anticipation is to repower with a pair of 175hp johnsons. my question is would this be enough power for this hull and what could i expect for speed/fuel consumpion at cruse. are the 175 hp johnsons fuel hogs?? i was told that 150's would be sufficient? the dry weight is approx 3500lbs, beam is 8' anyone who knows this hull-please send comments.

Re: REPOWERING A HYDRASPORTS 25'

I have a similar boat- 85 model powered with 2 merc 150's, replaced two 175's, boat was rated for 400HP max. Mine has plenty of power, 48 mph at WOT with light load, up on plane quickly with any load. Since you are within 75% of max rating (350hp/450hp)I think you will be fine. If the Johnsons are lighter than the ZuZi's you'll be even better off.
