I have a 85 Cobalt with an OMC 800 outdrive. The boot is punctured. How can I replace it without removing the stern drive? Can it be repaired?
Thanks! Rich R.

I have not done it but I heard it many times on this site and others. You can cut the old one, You use some tire soap to lube it up and carefully slide it over the outdrive .

You can replace it, be careful with the screws that go into the metal frame with secures the boot to your stern-----you need a good sealant on each screw and on the entire boot or you will be taking on water.

These are a pain. If it was punctured while underway by an object underwater, your insurance should cover the replacement---just a thought.

Alot of northern ontario marine mechanics have lots of experience with those, muskrats loved to eat through the boots and sink your boat.
