I have a marina that is going to do this conversion. Many hours and dollars to fill and drill the fiberglass transom to accommodate the Mercuiser transom. Has anyone used the Quicksilver transom adapter plate 827691A1 when moving from OMC to Merc?

If its a 1987 Bayliner with an OMC Cobra that it totally not needed! The OMC Cobra used the exact same cut out in the transom as the Merc Alpha. That adapter was for the older Volvo drives, prior to the SX models.
Now if your Bayliner had an OMC Stringer drive then yes transom work is needed.
