Repair Humminbird transducer cable?

I broke off one of the little gold pins on the male transducer cable connetor flush with the bottom of the cavity. No way I know of to get the little pin back in there. Question is: is it ok to splice on a new end connector, assuming I can get one. Humminbird sure built a screwy set up. I like the Eagle wire connectors much better. I think I may end up buying a whole new transducer just to restore that tiny little pin. Harley

Re: Repair Humminbird transducer cable?

Been there - done that. Humminbird transducers are simple and fairly straightforward to repair, and can be repaired with a little patience & TLC... Have spliced my buddy's back together at least 4-5 times (he has a couple of rambunctious kids, whose feet seem to always be in the way, and they are a tad rough on the wiring...) Finally convinced him to re-route the wiring, which seems to have helped some, but the bottom line is that with care they can be cut, soldered, re-shielded (I use aluminum foil for the shielding), then re-sealed (tape it up with electrical tape, then coat liberally with some black RTV works fine...just let it set up a few days before trying to submerge it), with no ill effects. Have even cut the transducer open, and re-soldered the wires back into it, after the trolling motor got tangled near some shoreline, pulling the wiring completely out of the transducer... Just go slow, and work it gently... Don't want too much heat on ANY of the components... Good Luck...
