Renaming your boat

I never got any response yet really... about superstitions... is it really bad luck to rename your boat? What if your boat name sucks?

Its sa-pose to be bad luck, but<br />having a bad boat name might bring <br />you bad luck. Better change it.<br />What is it?

The boat's name now is 'Cormorant'. I'd like to name it after my wife and son (Maria and Joseph (Joey)) to Mari-Jo.

norman,<br /><br />Interesting article.<br /><br />Magster,<br /><br />If you're worried about Posieden-forget it. Derwood can leave him quaking in his boots with the "Shady Lady". I believe a "shoafin priest" is of a higher rank, in the order of such things.

That's quite a ceremony, if that's the only way to change the name, I'll leave as it is. There must be something a little more... normal you can do

I always heard it was bad mojo to rename it. But afterall, a boat is an inanimate object, so if you don't mind walking under ladders, having your path crossed by a black cat, etc. I would say go for it.

I guess that's the problem, I consider myself the non superstitious type but I don't walk under ladders and I think about the black cat thing being bad luck when I see one run across the road or something. I think 99% of the time, people make their own luck, good or bad. It's a tough call... I don't want to have one of those boats that constantly has bad mojo. I'm actually considering the ceremony. Has anyone here changed the name of their boat?

Changing a boat name is only small voo Doo...A-kin to Knocking on wood.<br /><br />It's a short but important Cerimony though....First you have to gather a few things together:<br /><br />1:A sponge<br />2:A bowl of milk<br />3:An old lure (Hooks removed)<br />4:A piece of paper with the old boat name written on it.<br /><br />First you must walk around the boat three times repeating the words "NOT THE SHADY, NOT THE SHADY"<br /><br />Next, stand back and look at the boat and be glad its NOT the Shady.<br /><br />Tie the old lure to the cable hook on the bow and let it stay there forever.<br /><br />Write the old name down on the paper.....now when you get to the dock take the sponge and soak up the milk....while she is slideing in the water throw the sponge at the bow (this is like the old tradition but leaves no glass on the boat ramp for you to pop your trailor tires on while pulling it out of the water....it is said a Shoa Fin monk can predict the future...hence the sponge.)<br /><br />When your out at sea take the piece of paper and set it on fire with your lighter and toss it out to sea for a proper burial.<br /><br />Thats it....your done.<br /><br />VooDoowood.
