My friend has a 2005, 40hp Johnson 2-stroke. Power trim and tilt, 20inch shaft. (J40PLSO) I would like to take this motor and put it on the back of my 16' Crestliner tin boat. I would need to convert this engine to tiller steer. Is there a kit for this? If so where can I get one? Could I do the coversion myself or is it a dealer job? I assume that the tiller arm would have tilt control, ignition switch, gear shift, throttle, and emergency cut off. Sounds like a big job. A BRP model list shows this engine with a 4/12 amp alt. What does this mean? It charges between 4 and 12 amps?
If I can make it tiller drive, I need to bolt it to the Crestliner. Can I do this myself? 187 lbs. I assume it doesn't just hang on the back like my current 25hp.
Thanks for the help,
John
