Recoil spring spun in housing

When pulling rope it sounded odd then I heard the spring unwind in the housing.

Removed the pull start and found the tab had slipped into the housing. How does one repair this?

I would replace the cup.----Not cheap to buy new.-----E-bay for used might be an option.-----And make sure that washer is in the right place.----When installed the tab on the bottom of the cup MUST fit in a hole.-----Your location?

Yeah the lug was in the locator hole and tightened firmly. I’m just unsure how it happened. General wear/tear I suppose.

It’s in my bench vise and I’m not inclined to buy new.
