rate that weights sink

I troll for salmon and trout in Lake Michigan. Sometimes, instead of downriggers or lead core or dipsy divers, I like to "long line" whereby I have a spoon 200' behind the boat. I add torpedo shaped weights to take the spoon down. Otherwise, the spoon skips on the surface. The problem is I don't know how much torpedo-shaped weight to add at 2mph trolling speed. There must be a graph that would show for every 1 ounce of weight at 2mph, the weight will sink so many feet. Has anyone seen such a graph?

Re: rate that weights sink

If I understand the chart correctly, to get a spoon or body bait down 35', I need to let out 100' of line and have 16oz of weight on the line? That is much, much more than I had thought would be the case.
That is correct. If anything, the weights are on the "light" side.

Now you know why people use down riggers;)
