2012 Caddy and gauge has never been wrong "until now".
Tank is at 1/8 and light has not come ON. Normally goes much lower before it comes ON. Pull into Meijers to drop Admiral off for shopping and I'm going to get gas. Car dies, yes were out of gas. Pump is 50 yards away and I'm not pushing the car.

Go in and get a can with a push button that has to be held down. Two bit piece of crud. So I get gas in and it fires up, all good

Question:
Need to find out what to use instead of the crappy EPA thing. I'm all for saving the planet but I'm not using this junk. Anyone get something that will screw on inplace of it.

BTW, I have 5 other 5 gal gas cans and 3 other 5 gal diesel cans, old style

VP racing or other " Utility Jug ". They are not certified by the EPA. VP actually describes their use as for watering your garden and spreading feed now.. What you use it for is up to you

May need to pull the fuel pump/sender assembly. You may find that the carbon canister spit the pellets into the tank. Which will cause the pump to suck air before its empty

Good thought. If it wasn't for me having the coupon queen things like this would never happen. Use to always fill up before it gets to 1/4 but she wants us to get max all the time at Kroger. So this lets go a little longer all the time cost $19 for a can and saved $9 on gas

I get 5% back on fuel with the AMEX, so I simply use that since I drive 100 miles a day to and from work.

we also get deals at Publix on gift cards every once in a while (spend $40 on a $50 gift card) so we buy cards for the local racetrack, speedway and wawa

Dont get me started...
Same ole' idiocy by dumb bureaucrats that we see all the time promising to "save the planet" and in reality either don't know what they are talking about or more than likely are lining their pockets with mandates like this. "Hey, my brother-in-law needs a new lear jet and he makes these gas containers we can market".

Bottom line: No one wants to spill gas.

It's very hard to find a simple decent gas container or new spouts for the old ones.

I have a whole slew of gas containers, but I can't use half of them due to the faulty spouts. Stupid EPA spouts that fall apart with springs and other gizmos popping out all over the place and are guaranteed to fail sooner than later.
I bought a kit with a few spouts that seemed to look good, but they totally suck. They leak gas all over. They simply don't seal very well. The gaskets are made of cheap crap that distorts when you tighten the cap.
One of the other problems is there are a couple different thread types you have to deal with.

I found some simple spouts on Amazon that seem to work pretty well with my gas cans. For transferring anything over a gallon or so, though, I use a simple siphoning device (e.g., Jiggler) to transfer the fuel; it's much simpler and there is absolutely no spillage.

I have a fishing friend that buys old cans at garage sales. He tossed the cans and sells the old style spouts on ebay for big $$$.

He makes a good ROI on his purchases.

I had a 5 gallon can that between sun and rubbing, got a hole. Bought a new can and tossed the old one. I wasn't paying attention and didn't realize until I used it the first time that I threw away a perfectly good old spout.

🤦‍♂️

Fixed my can. As joe mentioned the threads are different so was going to just cut the thing off and use a piece of hose on the end with clamp. Figured how to take the thing apart and it should work ok but better.

Basically removed the plunger and spring. Plunger has 2 o-rings, 1 small on top and large on bottom. Cut the plunger and attached the push button back to top of plunger and pushed it back on top. Now no need to push down on the button because its always down. Use the cap on top the spout as before

Will probably also install a vent on the rear

I've done the same to some I have.. A cool way to make a vent is a tire valve stem with the core pulled.

I've picked up these on Amazon ... 10 for less than $7. Easy to install and work great.
