Hey guys, sorry about posting this here. But, I cant post anything in th engine thread.
I'm looking at this add. And have no idea what he means about the engine missing when higher than 3000 RPM

Since you're looking for an opinion, here is mine: The engine is the least problem on this boat. The bones/structure in this boat are likely too far gone. I'd move on unless the price is a few hundred dollars and you have a lot of time, money and restoration skills.

Did the ad have any pictures of this gem?

Judging by the quality of the ad, missing means when the RPMs exceed 3000, if you open the doghouse and look inside, the engine is gone, vanished. When RPMs are less than 3000, the engine is no longer missing and is sitting there purring in all it's glory. I may have read too much into the words. I am not swayed be the condition "used - good"

Here is how you should read the ad

selling a rotten boat, floor is rotten and I pulled the carpet out and realized I need at least $3000 to fix the hull and another $2000 to fix the interior

there is a crack in the hull and the boat is sinking, however as long as the bilge pump runs you may make it to shore. did I mention the hull stucture is rotten and the outdrive is about to fall off.

there has not been any maintenance done on the motor, the fuel system and ignition system needs lots of work as at 3000 RPM and above, there isnt enough fuel system to keep the motor from destroying itself due to running lean. expect to put in a new motor soon.

I lost interest in neglecting the boat as I am currently neglecting my RZR

I know little about boats and motors but based on that ad ... I wouldn't touch that thing :faint2: Scott's post above is closer to the truth than the ad is I would bet.

I read the ad and he seems pretty honest. The motor is misfiring when over 3000 RPM, however as mentioned above that is the least of its problems. The crack in the bottom of the boat is huge, like how did it get there, lol.

... and its comical he would say no big deal as the bilge pump takes care of it. My boat has a hole in the bottom but I just turn up the radio and never mind the sound of the pump going constantly,, oh and ya, don't leave it in the water over night..

I worry more about his judgement than his honesty.........
