I had a couple of Q's on my new Yamaha. I have read the owners manuel cover to cover twice and called the dealer several times and get conflicting answers.

1. Can I flush the motors with them running from the flushing devise (garden hose connector) without damaging the impeller?

2. The right motor prop turns while in "N" while flushing. Is the normal?

3. Planning a trip to the Bahamas with the boat and wanted to know what spare parts I should take with me?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

John

Re: Questions on Yamaha 225 Four Stroke

1) yes... how else do you think the rest of us flush our motors? =)

2) yes....normal...most outboards and IOs do this...

3) I would just make sure you have enough fuel, a single side band radio, a liferaft, and perhaps an extra set of props in case you spin one...make sure you keep an eye out for logs, etc when running. There's nothing crappier than hitting a big object on your way out to the deep.

Re: Questions on Yamaha 225 Four Stroke

I had the same question on my 225 hp two-stroke.

The answers I got were.

1. No, the garden hose connector was used to flush the engine when it is not running. If you plan on running the engine, use the muffs. I AM STILL CONFUSED ON THIS!

2. Yes my prop spins when it is in neutral. But does not make a difference when it is in the water, since the water resistance make the spin neglibile.

Re: Questions on Yamaha 225 Four Stroke

Yamaha says NOT to run the motor using the hose flusher fitting on the engine.

Use the "mouse ears" type of flusher around the gearcase water intakes when you want to run the motor out of water.
