Question regarding the usage of O3 (ozone generators) to keep water clean

Hello everyone. While I, myself, am not a boat owner and... actually pretty clueless about this thing, my dad recently bought a boat and has asked me to look into the usage of O3 to keep water clean so he can focus on the other stuff.

I also am unsure whether I am in the right sub forum. If not, please move it to the right place.

Now. I've looked a bit into these ozone generators and while there are several dangers surrounding the usage of O3 to clean air, it seems like it is quite safe practice to clean water with and my dad thought it'd be a good way to keep the water clean over a longer duration without constantly have to replace the water tank with fresh water.

Is this, indeed, an effective way to do so? Also for longer trips, like ones up to a month?

My dad found a very cheap ozone generator on Aliexpress (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32870723993.html) which seems to be quite questionable so I've advised against it. Any of you experience with this particular one? If this one is fine, would this suffice for a 280 liter tank of water?

Another thing my dad wishes to know is whether this ozone generator, or one like it, can be used with 12 volt.

One more thing he wants to know is whether it is safe. The water tank is at the bottom of the boat, next to the motor, and is in a closed area. Could this cause the O3 to remain there and create health risks? Or can he use a tube to the outside to get it out of the room?

To sum it all up the following questions:
1) Is the usage of ozone generators a good way to keep water fresh for a longer period of time?
2) a) Is the cheap ozone generator on aliexpress a good option, or better not, for a 280 liter tank of water? If not, what would be a good option, ideally cheap?
2) b) Any of these options with 12 volt?
3) Does it pose health risks when the water tank is at the bottom of the boat, next to the motor, in a closed area? And if so, would a tube to the outside be enough to remove the O3 from the air?
4) Something I am curious about, what is the difference between the different types of ozone generators? I found a bit of info on what almost seems like air bubbles being blown in some sort of pebble that needs replacing every once in a while, and something with electrolytes or something. Isn't the latter better since it doesn't need replacing?

Thanks for the answers in advance

dont buy anything off aliexpress that is more critical than a paperweight or an item in a junk drawer.

beyond that, the only ozone generators I know of are on large reverse osmosis units on yachts running 480 - 3-phase. not sure what is used on smaller vessels, or if its even needed.

Oh subjectively speaking I'd agree with the aliexpress thing. Nothing but bad experiences with it. But that aside, you say 'if even needed'. Why wouldn't it be needed? Isn't an ozone generator an effective way of keeping water fresh?

So is a half cup of chlorine bleach in a 75 gallon tank. It work for millions of RVs

ozone generators are used all the time in hot tubs. Mine has one.
That being said, I've got no pro or con evidence as to effectiveness. You still have to monitor and use chlorine.
Furthermore, the dealer actually said they help a little but didn't seem impressed with them. He said they normally fail in a couple of years.
mine is still working after 8 years.

I think the fresh water is, among other things, also intended for drinking and I may be wrong, but isn't chlorine and bleach toxic? I know it is fine to swim in, but not to be drunk. I think my dad is looking for an all in one solution to keep the water fresh for all purposes.

Your city water includes chlorine. Chlorine tablets are used in survival kits to purify water when hiking. Chlorine bleach is added to RV water systems to keep them clean and sanitized

99% of the people I know use bottled water on boats for drinking ,not from the boats faucet . If you use the the water from the tanks on a daily basis it won't go " bad " and start to smell . I do agree with the RV chlorine approach as well .

I see. I didn't know Chlorine was safe and effective to use in small doses. I live in the Netherlands where we don't use chlorine in our drinking water, so I had never heard of it.

So basically, you recommend the usage of chlorine tablets instead of ozonegenerators?

Same as you, mr 88?

I know that people generally use bottled water for drinking. My dad was just looking for a fast and easy solution, but I don't think he will be when he finds out the cost of such ozone generator compared to the usage of bottled water or chlorine
