Question on 3.0LX Closed Cooling System

Hello All,

I'm looking into the half-closed cooling systems for my 3.0LX and have a question regarding the installation. After looking through the installation instructions, the kits all seems to mention the routing of the cooling hoses coming/going to the power steering cooler however fail to advise on non-power steering equipped engines. Well, my 3.0 doesn't have power steering, and I am wondering if that will prevent the installation of the system, and if not, do the inlet & outlet for the power steering hoses on the heat exchanger just get blocked off? I never like to assume anything!

Thanks for your insight in advance.

Thanks for the response, Bond-o. That makes sense now that I think about it. What is the best way to block off those outlets?

On the kit, the only 2 that I've been able to find are the San Jaun and the OEM Mercruiser, the latter being about twice the cost of the former. I haven't found any negative reviews of the San Jaun systems from what I've been reading on the web. Is there another kit that you would recommend?

Thanks,
-Mark

Ayuh,.... I donno how to block anything yet, donno what it looks like, nor it's flows,...

There are rubber caps I've seen,... donno where to find 'em though,...
Plumbin' plugs would work, if the sizin' is right,...

Freshwater coolin' is seldom seen up here on the sweetwater seas,...

edit;... Frenchman Bay, ME
Just noticed that,....
I still have the ole family Lodge, up on Chemo Pond Maine, 3 miles off the Airline road,...
When I'm up there, I sometimes launch outa Lamoine Point state park, 'n cruise the bay down to Bar Harbor,...
Love to go 'round the island, but weather/ tides have never cooperated,....

First of all, why are you going with a half system ? This does not protect your exhaust manifolds from saltwater, only the engine block and circulating pump.
Normally the power steering cooler is on the raw water side, between the raw water pump and the heat exchanger. If you don't have power steering, then that is simply one less set of hose connections to make. You will just have a direct line from the raw water pump to the heat exchanger.

Yes sir! I know that area well; we do lots of snowmobiling around Chemo in the winter months. We're not too far from there, just off of Rt. 1 in Hancock. The bay can be a bit testy at times, especially on the south side of the island. The wind likes to jump up and bite ya from time to time. We tend not to venture too far out into the bay with the 17 footer; usually stay in and around the coves. Wish I had the big boat up here!

The only closed cooling systems available for the 3.0 are all half systems, unfortunately. Even the OEM Mercruiser kit is a half system.
