Ez, seeing how you were the person responsible for the introduction of pool noodles as floatation, I thought you might be able to answer a question. I thought I had read somewhere,( not sure if it was one of your posts), what the displacement was for a single noodle. I know you put quite a large number of them in your 18 ss. My 18 ss has no flotation at all, and I would like to put some in temporarily till the rebuild next winter. Just not sure I can get enough of them in to make a difference with out pulling the floor?

Re: Question for EZ?

I'm no ez, but I did do some research on the noodles before I decided to go half and half. 1 noodle is supposed to hold up 5 lbs of lead weight, 1, 180 lbs man, my wife volunteered to tie one around my neck and throw me in to see, because of his shape and buoyancy. Then they went on to say a boat is shaped to have a lot more buoyancy than a man so it would take a lot less. I'm not really sure that is pertinent with the boat filled with water. Several interesting experiments done testing these things. As for how many can you stuff under your decking, how big of a hole are you stuffing thru?

Re: Question for EZ?

Thanks heyyou, I don't have a hole in the deck, as of right now, I bought a couple dozen noodle the other day at the dollar store, and was thinking of just stuffing them in the gunwales, and under the rear deck for the time being. Just don't know if it would actually make a difference if I got swamped.

Re: Question for EZ?

I got 72 of them in mine. I did leave a pretty large open space for my rod locker so even more could be fitted if one was so inclined. I bought them by the case for a terrible price but it was the winter and it wouldn't have been possible or desirable for me to drive all over the place acquiring a handful at a time. Right now you could probably do pretty well hitting the Wal-Marts and dollar stores.

This was my only scrap from the 72

It is very important that they be arranged properly by color or your boat will be lopsided :p

I only post these pictures to make jason jealous.
