Hello all, I went to buy a new prop for my 1996 Monte Rey 180 SCR which has a 3.0 Ltr motor (GMC) and a Mercruiser Alpha One Gen2 and it has a 21 pitch prop which is bent. The dealer told me that the boat I have runs better with a 17 or 19 pitch prop. I didn't buy it because I want to check first to see if he is correct. Can someone help me with this?

Sounds like pretty good info from the dealer.. I run a 3 blade stainless 19p on my 17.5ft bowrider powered by the 3.0. Top end is pretty good. My boat does an honest 40 mph at 4600 rpms. Bottom end is good. It will pull up a 200lb slalom skier.

How many RPM were you turning with the 21".

Re: Question about prop

I can't answer that I bought this boat on Monday. I'm trying it put it up to date because it was abused and neglected.

A 19" prop is definitely in the range, but it is hard to say without more data.
