Question about mercruser alpha 1 gen2 parts

I have a 1996 3.0 LX mercruser alpha 1 gen 2 I need to know what type of carb does it have if it is the same as a car carburetor and what number of kit am I supposed to get and the thermostat what temperature is it supposed to be and if I can use an automotive thermostat if anyone can help thank you very much

No.... This is not a automotive carburetor......

No... An automotive thermostat cannot be used.

and the thermostat what temperature is it supposed to be

Why do you think you need a carb kit??? Post your problems and I am sure many of us can help solve your problem. Many times the posting in regards to carbs on the 3.0 tend to be fuel filters blockage or in the late models and adjustment issue...

victorc1 if your carb has one air idle mixture screw it's a mercarb and if it has two air idle mixture screws it is a rochester. If it's a mercarb the kit I got was ordered from aftermarketmarine.com a universal kit that fits all mercarb 2 barrels there are differences in the accelerator pump diameters also if the i.d. plate and or stamp on your carburator displays the carb # you can use that but the guy's @aftermarket made this kit up to fit all mercarbs and I do believe they also carry the rochester kit's as well. If it's a mercarb there were 6 different carb #'s used on the 96 model 3.0 but te kit # for the mercarb is imckmcu and it's 35.95 plus s/h phone #1-800-349-2628 I even ordered on Sunday! Good Luck!!

i think the carb has to be rebuilt because the engine was dieseling and i took off the filter in the carb and found a lot of rust then i opened up the carb and found that where the gas stays it was full of mud and rust
