I just got a 1988 mint condition 18 ft Hydro sport bass boat I am going to use it as a flats boat. I had two people tell me that I can not use a bass boat for saltwater due to the way bassboats are built! "WHAT" I have never heard that before. But I have never seen one in the saltwater. Tell me thats just not SOOOO!

The only difference I can think of would be engine flush and wash salt off everytime

Fiberglass is Fiberglass, no saltwater Fiberglass. Fittings are the only difference. Change everything you can to stainless steel. You will need to put a saltwater trolling motor on as well! A Hydaulic Jackplate will make it work really well in shallow water but watch your water preasure! I would also install a set of Smart tabs!

A galvanized trailer would be good also!

Re: Question about a bass boat

I trailer my bass boat to Florida every year and i put it into salt water. However i launch and retrieve in fresh water and make a five mile run to get into salt water. That helps flush out the motor. I also take the boat immediately to the local car wash for a spray down to wash off any salt residue. Ive never had any problems doing it this was now for 7 years.
