Re: Quantum QL50
Hello Dennis
I have not used the real you mentioned
however I do prefer the levelwind (baitcaster)
for all my fishing including trolling, jigging,
casting, even ice fishing. The level wind allows
the line to come off the real with out twisting
a spinning real will twist the line. Every time you hear the drag click when fighting a fish ie:
he is taking line and you are reeling in.The line
twists once for every turn of the handle. This can
cause problems with your line after a hard days
fishing. However It does take some practice to get the hang of casting with a baitcaster. Some helpful rules when using a baitcaster:
Always remember to reset clutch when changing
lures. most lures have different weights and if you don't set clutch each and every time you change lures you will spend all your time removing bird nests from your line after your cast. Start by practicing with a small weight and casting in a Field or on the water.
to set clutch drag.click bail button and let weight fall to the ground. set clutch so drum stops spinning exactly when weight hits the ground. As you get better at casting you can let tension off to improve the distance you get.
If you use really light line and very small jigs or lures you will still want to use your spinning real, as level winds do not cast as well with very small line and lures .
