Purpose of the spinning reels roller bearings?

What is the purpose of the spinning reels roller bearing? Is it to smooth out the drag or to prevent line twist? Every time I throw light lures with little drag in the water my line gets twisted up. I was thinking that no resistance on the roller bearing causes the line to skip across the roller without rolling it and that is the reason for the line twist. It only happens with light lures such as mini rattle traps.

any ideas?

thanks

The bearing has nothing to do with twist. The bearing is used for nothing more than to reduce line wear due to friction. If you want to reduce twist, manually close the bail and pull the slack out of the line as you crank

Also try useing light line for light lures.6lb should work better for tangles and casting distance.

Be sure to spool your line the right way and use light line for the mini's. I like a 7' ultra light combo for the real small stuff.
