I am now seriously scared of of boating. You may have seen my post before about my gas tank problems. I stopped to fuel up before a fishing trip and poored gallons and gallons of gas into my boat when I finally realized that it was taking on too much fuel. Pulled the hull plug and realized that all my gas was going directly from my gas tank into my hull. I drained the hull of 17+ gallons only minutes after fueling up so I know that it is a very bad leak. I checked all the lines and connections and they are good. I then tested the connections for leaks by pooring a few gallons to see if any was leaking out anywhere but nothing. Right now I have about 7-8 gallons of gas in my tank that are below wherever this crack or hole is in my tank. I believe that the tank is corroded but I can't confirm that until I tear the deck apart and get a real look at it. It is common sence though, 15 gallons wouldn't leak out of a hole in any line in the short about of time that it did. It was like I was just pooring gasoline into my hull. This has to be a faulty gas tank. Now I am seriously scared to ever take myself, friends or family out on anything other than a new boat. I thought that I already had about 15 gallons of fuel in my boat so if I would have decided to just go out without topping it off with fuel, I am almost certain that starting the engine or somthing throughout the day would have ignited the fumes creating an explosion and we would all be seriously injured or killed. I think that this is a very important safety issue that needs to be addressed. The tank is inaccessable which means that it is supposed to last, It is almost impossible to know if your tank is corroding and when the corrosion is finally bad enough for fuel to leak out you may not know. I am just glad that the leak in the tank broke through while sitting in my driveway instead of when I hit some wake, fumes to the battery, spark and boom. Proline should really consider the durability of their tanks before people get killed. OK, I think that I have overdone explaining my situation here. Does anyone know if there was a recall on 1989 Proline boats because of the gas tanks. Also do you think that Proline would help me out with at least the repairs being that this is an obvious default by the manufactuer. Anyway, I will be in touch with Proline and see if they are willing to help. I will give everyone feedback of the issue. In the mean time, be safe and always check your fuel lines and bilge before you decide to take the boat out.
