I buy most of my tackle from a local guy whos inventory is second to none, and great prices. A nice little shop. Today I stopped in and was looking at some of the latest additions when I picked up a lipless crank bait that looked almost exactly like a rattle trap. Price on the box---24.99 WOW talk about sticker shock! The owner told me thats what the manufacture gets for them. I am not cheap when it comes to my rods and reels but I'll be darned if I'll throw 25 dollar lures, lost to many 5 and 10 dollar lures to the lake to try that. Could this bait be so much more superior that its worth opening the wallet? I doupt it. The name of the lure escapes me at the moment. Have you seen it.

Re: Prices for lures

My opinion is that very expensive lures work very well. They catch lots of fishermen! :)

If you want sticker shock try looking at marlin gear and lures. Some of them are made mostly of rubber and still $300.

Re: Prices for lures

flathead, i've seen some $15 crankbaits at basspro shop. and those were standard freshwater bass lures. maybe they were the 'frenzy' models? supposed to be engineered to put off more realistic vibrations, etc... lol

so far, i'm still going with the $4 stuff ;)

Re: Prices for lures

The more money I spend on expensive lures the more I learn that the good cheaper lures work just as will. I am at the point of cleaning out the tackle boxes and go back to the basics and one tackle box.

Yep FH I was shocked when I saw it myself but they also shell out thousands of dollars for a rod and them more for a reel. Of course not everyone that goes out after Marlin feel the need to spend that much but to those who do the tourney thing and have boats they take all over the world chasing these fish the expensive gear and such is a must have. Just a quick peek in Bas Pro Shops Master Cat. at the s/w Marlin lures and thier most expensive one is $59.99. This is Bass Pro and they don't even have much stuff for this type of fishing because who actually orders it from them?

I find $4 a little too much, I couldn't imagine $25!

I know that 'YoZuri' is very expensive...however, I do like their baits' action. I've only bought two of them, and I am scared to use them because they cost too much to lose!

Shawn

Yeah, I remember when Rapala's first came out. They were in such demand that you couldn't buy one anywhere. I was living in Arkansas at the time and at the big lakes, they were actually renting Rapala lures along with a huge deposit. They did catch fish, though.

Re: Prices for lures

I just bought 18 new Rapalas today. The local man's mall,( farm/home/mega sports store) is setting up the spring fishing displays, and is clearancing the discontinued models and colors. I figure the fish don't know they are discontinued.

Roscoe, what are some good types and colors of Rapalas for Northerns, Walleyes and bass for Wisconsin?

I just bought a couple ratt-l-traps from a Kmart that is being closed. Got 10% off.

Re: Prices for lures

I won't spend more than $5. My philosophy is that on high pressure lakes, fish bite lures if it imitates something they eat and that the fish has not seen it before. The fish haven't seen the expensive lures because nobody can afford them. I buy many lures at Big Lots. I don't know if these stores are nation wide. But most lures are under $2. Most are lures you've probably never seen before or heard of. Most importantly is that I have caught many fish with these cheap lures.
