powerhead to mid section gasket??

The OMC manual for my "97 150 says to apply permatex #2 gasket maker to the "inner exhuast flanges" and then to coat both sides of the gasket with sealer. There is a picture showing the area where I'm supposed to apply the gasket maker...but the pictures in my manual look like somebody scanned them from another manual...absolutley horrible! Anyway, can somebody explain where I should be putting this stuff?

Well, I'm not familiar with the motor, but maybe I can help you if you have a picture of both the flange area and the gasket. I think I know what they're trying to explain, but not sure enough to wing it w/o more info.

if I am not mistaken I believe it goes around the exhaust tube sections....should be a squarish hole with a bar dividing it in half. It will also be extremely black, sooty and carboned up due to exhaust
