I just bought a boat with a "70 100hp johnson outboard.
I have trim tilt problems. I hear a motor spin - which I assume is spinning up the hydrualics, but i get no trim and no tilt. The Clymer book I bought states the motor must be tilted up to service/test the hydrualics but how do i manually lift the motor to do so?

u might be able to get it to rest on a motor toter or something then disconect the pin that connects the cylinder to your motor to release it?

Re: Power trim tilt

Egan, first run the PTT motor in the up position and lift the motor by hand, all the way up if possible. Now lock it up, remove the fill plug and squeeze in some Dextron III ATF until it is full. Replace the plug and unlock it and run the motor in the down position until it is fully down. Repeat this cycle, but let the motor sit in the up positon a few minutes to let the air bubble out of the fluid. check for leaks and rebuild the unit if necessary.

Re: Power trim tilt

Chris,
Thank you so much!
I have been working wiring for the past three weeks and tonight I followed your guidance - it worked!!
I appreciate the time you took to help me. I hope I can return the favor to someone in the future.

David
