A couple of days ago I hit something that took a pretty good chuck out of my prop. Afterwards I couldn't go fast enough to get up on plan. The engine would rev, but I wouldn't go any faster. I thought I just spun the prop hub. I have since replaced the prop, but I am still having the same problem. The boat shifts in forward and reverse with no problems. What else could be slipping? Is it posible I may need replace the clutch dog and foward gear in the lower unit?

Hi Iguana,
You may have broke a driveshaft. Or spun the engine coupler. Is there metal in the LU oil?
...have fun...corm

I'm not sure about the metal in the Lower Unit oil, because I haven't had a chance to take it out of the water yet. If it was a shaft would I be able to drive around off plan at lower speeds? Do engine couplers have ruber bushings that can be spun like the ones on props?

Hi,
I've run at idle speeds with a broken shaft my self and seen others. Most common is the spun coupler. Yes it is like a prop hub.
...have fun...corm

Thanks for your help. Hopefully this long weekend I'll have time to take it out of the water and pull the outdrive, so I can get look at the coupler. I'll let you know.
