I bought 2-30 gallon plastic barrels for gas. Going to the cerveza platform. These barrels are made of heavy-duty plastic.someone told me the coast guard is strict on what type of barrels to use to put gas in. Does any one no if this is true

You might be able to use those to fill the tanks on a boat, but, they are probably not approved as portable fuel tanks on a boat.

What issue are you trying to solve? My neighbor used to put lots of 5G Jerry cans in his 20' boat and go to the canyon to fish. Never seemed smart to me, but he lived...

Just want to make sure I could use the drums I bought to have extra gas for my fishing trip

Are they certified as fuel containers? How do you know the material won't dissolve after prolonged exposure to gasoline?

My friend uses the same type of drums . I am only going use them to storage gas for about 6 hours when I get to my location I will pump the gas in my boat. And never use them for long periods of time for gas storage

May of the plastic barrels and containers these days have markings on them to let you know what they are safe to use with., I know a lot of the farm and feed stores around here sell empty blue plastic barrels from different types of supplies they sell to the farmers and ranchers and the majority of them say right on them don't store flammables in them.

If the barrels are not bright red, and they don't have embossing on the side that says "gasoline', they are totally illegal and dangerous to use.

Next time you go to the gas station, read the sign on the wall that instructs you about filling portable containers.

Why do you need 60 extra gallons of gas to drink beer on the water?

How far out in the Gulf are you planning to go and is your boat up to it?

The answer is NO, but it appears you want some other answer. You can store fuel in MT soda pop bottles like I've seen some actually do, that doesn't mean it's safe and legal. An idiot that worked for me did exactly that until his kids thought it was Coca Cola and nearly died.

Why ask if you're mind is made up? My mother's voice is echoing in my head "If all of your friends jumped off of a bridge......."

Unless it's rated for fuel use, don't do it There are different plastics used for different scenarios. Some plastics hold up better to petroleum products than others, hence the different ratings. There are also plastics more prone to static buildup and discharge, aka an electric spark. I wouldn't want to be within 1000 feet of 30 gallons of gas when that buildup and discharge happen.

Not sure of the brand of heavy white barrels we use but they are for dangerous solvents in the steel plant and we have used them for 15 plus years. Each is 15 imperial gallons I believe. No metal on them and you can kick them off the back of a truck and land on rocks and your not puncturing them.Be advised not all plastic barrels are created equal.
