My buddy told me about this stuff because I had not heard of it before last weekend. He told me that he had spray painted the wheels of his '08 BMW and i thought he had lost his mind... until I tried using it.

This is one of the coolest products I have found in a long time. I used a couple of cans of it on my boat's outboard motor and it worked great. The best part is, if you don't like it just peel it off

Too cool.

I now find myself looking for other things to spray it on :D

Looks like you have yourself a Chrysler shallow vee--correct?

Here's what you do with Chrysler engines.

Plasti Dip is some great stuff! It's basically the original flex seal you see advertised on TV. My buddy and I painted his wheels on his burnt orange 2011 Civic SI and it looked great. It's some tough stuff but removal is a cinch. I believe it comes in colors too but the matte black is my favorite. Just actually sprayed some on a tray in the transom area of my tinny last night as I was have trouble deciding how to finish it and we had some cans left over from the wheels. Application is also easy just apply till it looks wet and shiny wait thirty minutes to re coat recommended at least 3-4 coats. Ill snap some photos today and post them up here. This stuff is great and its cheap too! You can pick it up in any auto parts store... wanna say it was like 5 bucks a can which does about 10 sq ft... dont quote me on that

So it's like a spray-on skin, like bed liner?

to get it to stick do you have to do a lot of prep?

those familiar with it, what do you think:

I can't get antifouling products to stick to my underwater metals--trim tabs, ski ladder bracket, very bottom of LU. So how about if I spray it on, let the sea life grow, and periodically peel it off with the critters, reapply?

How long is the drying time?

Does it go on thick enough to seal small cracks? If so, and it comes in white, might be good on old boat with spider cracks or to seal repairs.

What about on the oil pan, etc. of a beach vehicle to stop rust, like spray undercoat?

Re: Plasti Dip Outboard Motor Coating

Let me see if this helps any... again im no expert on the stuff:

1) Its more like a spray on skin rather than bedliner; A lot of people use it to spray on wheels during winter months so the salt doesn't eat them up

2) Prep is just to clean the surface; We used paper towels and 409

3) Not sure about underwater metals; Don't see a reason why it wouldn't work, just not sure how long it would last fully submerged all the time; but clean up is really neat; just lift an edge and it peels like rubber; im sure there are youtube video demonstrating

4) drying time is at least 4-8 hours to fully cure

5) as far as structural repairs prob not recommended but don;t see why you couldn't fix spider cracks with it only problem would be color matching; and a patch would be kinda noticeable after 3-4 layers

6) Again its a good protective coating but as far as taking a beating like a rhino liner not so much; although my buddy had it on his civic for almost a year with no noticeable chips or anything

Is that plasti-dip the same stuff used to dip and insulate tool handles? Moot point now because I don't remember seeing any new pliers or cutting tools without plastic covers recently.

Well, Mr. Crabs: The first in the previous photos of the previous answer is from a print by Boris Vallejo--a renowned fantasy artist. The second is by a Polish artist--I forget his name but the painting is hanging in a fine art museum in Warsaw. It is whimsically titled: Last Baltic mermaid Catching Bird Flu.

Let me see if I can find the next two to be put on engines. There you go. Do you think I have a thing for mermaids--possibly? I come from the generation that put murals on the sides of vans so it is natural for me to want to do the same on the outboard hoods.

Someone's head is in the gutter, lol

And just for an update, i've already peeled the plasti dip off and I can't even begin to explain the bizarre sense of pleasure you get when it all comes off in one huge piece.

It's breathtaking! Or maybe I'm just weird....

Now look: I post some fine art to perhaps elevate the level of appreciation on the forum and you guys just take it to the prurient limit. I have a Johnson too, but is just isn't the correct shape and size to put them on it. LOL
