Just getting into flyfishing (saltwater mainly) but wondered if anyone of you guys had a few pics of your favorite saltwater flies/bass flies. I mainly fish for speckled trout and redfish. Would love to see some pics of your favorites as eventually would like to begin tying my own flies (have an intro kit to practice). Thanks and happy new year!

Beaux
If you are looking to get into fly tying
I recommend you find and try the 6 c/d collection
on fly tying by "True north fly tying" It will
turn a beginner into the most experienced professional as fast as you can turn your computer on. Unlike video you can move from one frame to the next and not miss a single step, and
learn how to tye correctly the very first time.

Re: pics of favorite flies

Nice to meet someone who has more time on their hands than I do. While I agree it would be nice to tie something that a fish took and it is most likely cheaper than buying flies as I do I like to spend my time fishing rather than building. What I would do if I was gonna start tying my own is first see what the locals already use because a suggestion from me may not be a local hot fly. I would then come off the wallet and buy a few of them for starters and see how they look and work. You then have on hand a finished version and if you get the CD, Video or just a book it gives you the instructions. But as I said first and foremost I would determine what works locally what I have success with and then you can pick up one or two of the nice to have flies from a shop and spend the time making the tried and true ones and perhaps experimenting on a favorite pattern perhaps making it more durable or perhaps a new color or combination.

Here's a pic of my least favorite.Couldn't resist.Actually I am more of a live bait fisherman since the natural gamefish food is generally in good supply via cast net.

Re: pics of favorite flies

I expected a reference/pic of jeff blumeberg(sp?) from the movie "the Fly".... good one OB! LOL

No sleep- How expensive is this cd set? Do you have it yourself? Definitely sounds like the way to learn. If you have it, burn me a copy and I will gladly pay you for cd expenses and a little for your time! :D I am planning on going to the local-yocal flyfishing monthly meetings, but only after I get a little more acquainted with what I am doing.

Peter- Thanks for advice. I probably am guilty as charged with wasting time but I can use "some" of the free time I waste on Iboats at work to maybe learn a new skill instead. Anyway, I love making things with my hands so I will enjoy the tedious nature of it. Thanks and look forward to any other suggestions!

Beaux
I do have the True north c/d set. It was given to me by a friend of a Friend, it is also a burnt copy but i do not have a c/d writer. I would think the c/d set would probably cost about $80.00
canadian. I will see if i can find some one that can burn a copy of my set. shouldn't take to long.be patient it will be worth the wait. :)

Hello Miloman
I see from your post you are in Toronto
I am closer to the west coast than I
am east. I also see you like to tye flies.
It is a great addition to the sport. tye'm
cast'm and catch'm. I enjoy flyfishing on
the Bow River , biggg browns and rainbows
are common. The Crowsnest river is a river
i enjoy as well, but does get alot of pressure.
best to fish it in the fall.
pike are a handful on the fly, and are great sport in the spring at ice out.I would like to spend some time trolling with a fly on fly gear with a down rigger for salmon. walleye are fun on
a fly rod, they will hit a clouser minnow in a heart beat. What kinds of fish do you stalk with your fly rod?

Re: pics of favorite flies

spring is always rainbow until about the second week of May then its off to my various creeks for Brook and browns, Early June I take a 5 day trip into Algonquin for back lake brook. Mid summer I try to get away up north and fish for some nice sea run brook. It depends on how many tourny's I'm entered in. I have fished bass with my fly rod kinda fun then fall comes and its Salmon time preceeded by some brown and Atlantics. Then rainbow during the course of the winter. I usually on average fish 130 days a year

No Sleep-
I got it. Thanks again. He sure does make it look easy. The CD's are a LOT better than a book as far as following step by step. I will get in some practice in the near future and if I get any worthwhile results, I will send you some samples.....may be awhile though! :D :D
I really appreciate it and want to thank you for your trouble.
Beaux
