Perko battery switch only works on # 2 battery

I recently recommisioned my boat after one year in storage I installed two new batteries and the engine will only start on when the Perko battery switch is on the #2 battery. Nothing "#1" or "both". I tried switching the battery postions. Still nothing on #1 or "both". Is the switch bad or can it be serviced?

Do you have the NEG terminals of both batteries tied together. If not, that would explain the problem.

I am not sure. I am not looking at boat right now but I can remember one gound going to each battery. Its a 1997 Yahamaha 90HP
