I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post:confused:, but ill give it a shot. I have a 1977 viking deck boat with a 302 ford, omc stringer outdrive and of course its broke:redface:. I need to locate and buy what i think would be called the trunnion caps. It holds the out drive to the intermediate, about 4 inches long and 3/4" wide with two I think are 1/2" bolts with a thin type of bearing under it. Also this may sound like a stupid question but if my impeller went bad in the out drive would the engine still get water or would it over heat? The reason I ask is when I lowered the outdrive into a barrel of water and started the engine no water came out of the exaust port. Any info would be greatly helpful. :)

Thanks Gary

Re: Parts Help!

If a marine engine isn't pumping water, the raw water pump impeller is the first thing that shoulld be checked. They are a maintenance item and do have to be replaced.

Re: Parts Help!

I would just start going around to some boat shops and asking about the caps.
Also ask about any marine salvage places in your area.

If no luck pm me and I can give you 3 in California.

Hopefully the engine has been drained or you might need more than just trunnion caps come springtime... :( 'nutcase

yeah, most people in cooler climates understand the concept of winterizing a engine.;)

From my experience, I wouldn't bet on it. Come to this forum in April and May, you may change your opinion.

Re: Parts Help!

It's going to be an early spring this year, here on the iboats IO forum. I expect a lot of posts in the next few weeks about water in the oil, freeze plugs popped out, cracked blocks etc. from all of those Florida boaters that every Sept. through December give is the yearly ":p We don't have to winterize here, it doesn't get cold here :p " type posts. Even though the weather reports were warning them of 20? weather.

Wasn't there a fairy tail about not being prepared for winter?

Re: Parts Help!

That would be excellent. What kinda parts you got because as you already know the omc stringer is a parts eater. If you can come up with a list i'm sure i would be interested in something.
