O.K. here's my Dumb, mistake. I bought my second outboard from a fellow who told me that it ran great when first taken out but after beeing run and sitting (fishing) it wouldn't go above idle. I figure it was something simple and buy it anyway (the price was right). I mount the engine and go fishing. Sure enough it ran great from the trailer to the first cove. After catching nothing but a case of the a$$ I decide to move. Starts right up but wont go above idle without stalling. O.K. I was warned so i nurse it back to the ramp and commence to scratching my head. Decided that the fuel lines were all new to the pump and when cranked the pump put out a good spray so I must have a float that dont float. Started tearin the airbox off and find the fuel line crimped behind it. Change that out and decide as long as i'm in there I would go ahead and resync the carbs. (Looked easy in the book) turned the jet all the way in (just like the book said) but for some reason ( a five and three year old not to mention the other half) I neglected to turn them out a full turn. Now the fun starts. Put the kids and wife in the boat and put the boat in the water. Wife starts boat and it promptly dies and will not restart. Time for more head scratchin fogged it with a little carb cleaner it fires right up and shuts right down. I was always taught that if it worked before you messed with it then you messed it up. Thanks to divine intervention or maybe the fact that I had pulled the last of my few remaining hairs from my head. I realized my mistake. Recently traded that 1968 55 evinrude and hope the next owner is not as easily perplexed as I am!!
