Over heated exhaust.

The port side exhaust over heated and melted the rubber connector. As stated on a previous thread in here nothing else was hot. I checked the water pump flow and it is OK, I pulled the hose leading to that exhaust checked flow with my house hose and it seemed to be OK (water flowed out and over exhaust elbow). The exhaust elbow seems to be gnarly (all crudded up and i dont think the water is flowing correctly). Could this be the reason for the over heat? How should the water flow over elbow? Someone on here said i needed to replace both manifolds and elbows. If it is a problem with the exhaust elbow water flow can i just replace that one for now? Dont really have the cash right now to replace both sides but i would like to get the boat out some more this season. If it is critical that both sides be replaced i will park boat and look for next season. Any advise would be appreciated, Thank you.

Re: Over heated exhaust.

A plugged exhaust riser can definately cause the melting exhaust hose you have.

I would only replace the one side (and the melted hose), but be fully prepared to have to do the other side, very soon. But that's just me.

Re: Over heated exhaust.

Take the riser and manifold off and see what you think. If you are really tight you could replace just the riser and hose and see how that goes.

You can feel of the exhaust once you do that and see if you think its still getting too hot.

Fill out the profile so we know what your working on.Some manifolds have anti freeze in them and just the riser needs to be replaced. You can replace the riser on that side. Then take the other side and try to clean it out.You might get another season maybe 4-5 more. But get ready to replace it all.The components should be replaced as a unit.
Barr or Osco make low cost replacements. They sell parts on this site.J
