outboard performance

I recently found a 2000 Johnson 50hp. to replace my 50hp Force, at what I consider a very good price - 4100. with new controls, installed. Will the difference in the two motors give me the performance I want? I have a 16ft. deep V Mirrocraft Aggressor - with the Force it is very hard to get on plane and and very doggy. I live at obout 4500 ft. above sea level. I am still trying to get the performance I want at the price I can afford, but I cannot aford to throw money away. I would appreciate any replies.
Thanks, Wood

Re: outboard performance

The starter rubs a hole in the pulse hose on some of the 2000 50 hp motors, you can remove the starter and grind a notch for the hose. Check the compression and watertest motor before the money changes hands.

Howdy, Wood. The Johnny should give you a little more power than the FORCE, because it is rated at the prop and I have heard that the FORCE is rated at the crank. Even then, you are marginal for planing your Mirrocraft unless you get exactly the right prop and balance the boat well. You can get some help in getting her up by adding a hydrofoil to the lower end and polishing her bottom.

Good luck.

Red sky at night. . .
JB
