KEEP OPEN BOW CENTER WINDSHIELD CLOSED & LATCHED WHILE UNDERWAY. YOUR FAMILY WILL THANK YOU.
Hi Everyone, I just want to remind everyone about the dangers of not closing the center windshield of an open bow boat. Unfortunately, we lost our 23 year old daughter when she flew out over the front of an open bow boat on the Chesapeake Bay in 2020. They hit a sandbar hard while she was standing between the open glass section holding on to the frame, there was nothing to stop her. PLEASE close and latch the windshield before you push off the dock. Additionally, ALL passengers should remain seated while underway. Hannah's tragedy was compounded by an extreme low tide. Please check the tide charts before pushing off the dock AND before you depart on your return to the launch or dock.

Mod Edit. No soliciting

Very sorry for your loss....looking a child is a horrible thing ! Most of these dangers can be stopped by following common sense safety rules, but everyone thinks it won't happen to them.........it until it does !

Terrible.

The term "bow rider" isn't so great either. I gave one of my kids a scare my first season while cutting back over our own wake/turbulent water and he was up there getting light on the seat and NOT enjoying it. No more after that.

Having anyone up there cuts forward visibility too.

See these guys at just about every boat show/event in the northern Bay. The actual incident happened back in 2020.

I see the OP came on here, posted and got edited, visited 2 days later and didn't get the reaction they wanted and disappeared.

Closed and locked are not necessary if you are practicing safe boating ... keeping people seated or appropriately anchored while underway, attacking waves at appropriate speeds and angles for the situation, wearing PFDs, etc. It is called using your head. All accidents are tragic ... especially when avoidable. Do your best to limit your exposure to accidents while enjoying your time on the water. Safe and fun boating to all!
