I have 1987 225 HP OMC sea drive. At idle the motor really shakes from side to side.Is there some bushings or something that go bad in that steering arm?

Hard to say based on the info you provided. Are all of the cylinders firing? I suspect that you are not running on 6 & that is the cause of the vibration.

P.S. I have a pair of 1988 V4 SeaDrives - No trouble yet.

Sorry about lack of details.I have twin sea drives, when I grab starboard drive I can turn it some from side to side and when I am under power I am getting water under the cowling. That is why I am wondering if there is bushings gone bad.Motor runs great!

Re: OMC Sea Drive

Water under the cowl is not uncommon for Sea Drives and is the reason for the loss of the top and bottom main bearings among other things. Since yours is over 15 years old we can assume it hasnt had this problem all along. The shift shaft seal is the most common place to look for water intrusion. Water will travel up the shift shaft and if the shift rod seal in the adaptor housing is bad or missing it will enter there.

As for your side to side play, do you mean its in the steering or does the power head move without the steering moving? If thats the case I would look at upper mount bolts broken / loose / missing, condition of the mount itself or the nut on the bottom of the steering shaft tube might be loose.

Good luck!

What I mean from side to side movement is thst the powerhead mid section and gearcase are tight but where the motor roatates on the steering housing is lose.Hope this explains a little better.
