I have a 1990 VIP Vision with a 1989 OMC 2.3L motor with a Rochester barrel carburetor. The model# on the Carb is 17086107.

I am pretty sure that the carb will need to be rebuilt. It has fuel that is slowly seeping out from gaskets. The other problem i am having is when I give it gas, the engine bogs down and sometimes stalls out before it revs up.

So the fuel seepage is obviously a safety issue as we don't want the boat to go boom. But what would be the cause of the engine bogging down or cutting out when I am giving it throttle? Will a rebuild fix this?

My question is what is the difference between the automotive and marine rebuild kits? Can i use the automotive rebuild kit to rebuild the marine carb?

The bog down is the accelerator pump probably being worn out. It comes with the rebuild kit. If I remember correctly I used the automotive application. It's mostly gaskets. Pretty easy to rebuild if you take your time.

Good luck

Ok. this is annoying... I ordered Sierra PN#18-7086 from O'riley auto parts for 45 bucks opened the box and in it was another box with part number 19018. So I goggled that PN and up came the exact same kit from O'Riley auto parts for 15 bucks. The only difference was it didn't have an extra box.

Oh dang, the 'ol switcheroo. I would call Oreilly and demand a price adjustment/refund or return the item and get the same auto kit from your local store.

Re: OMC 2.3L Carburetor

I just rebuilt my Rochester 17086107 2G 2 days ago. I ordered my kit from Mike's Carburetor Parts. I talked to Mike on the phone, and he was very helpful. There is a series of about 5 videos he posted on Youtube that gives a good tutorial on the rebuild. Do a Google search to find it. The Rochester 2G has to be one of the most simple carburetors I have ever rebuilt. Millions and millions of cars, trucks, industrial engines, boats, and every other internal combustion engine had the 2G on it. I do believe that there is a difference between the auto and marine kits. The marine gasket kit blocks of some of the passages to prevent vapor from the bowl going into the engine compartment. My 2.3 also had a slight stumble on throttle up. My conclusion is that the stumble was caused by a worn accelerator pump plunger. My carburetor had a lot of debris in the bowl. One of the dirtiest I have ever seen.
